Travel Questions that I frequently get Asked
When I first started traveling throughout Southeast Alaska, I had a thousand questions but couldn’t find a great blog or online resource to help me navigate. As I spent more time in Petersburg, Sitka, and Juneau, I gathered more experience and wanted to share this information with other people who are looking to explore southeast Alaska.
Over the years, I have had people ask quite a few questions. Below are a few of the most FAQs – hopefully this helps you get started planning your trip!
FAQs List
- Q: What should I pack?
- A: Packing is tricky because a lot of it depends on the individual and what activities you will be doing. However, I put together a general packing guide and you can find it here!
- Q: I didn’t realize there were so many different cruise options. How do I know which cruise to go on?
- A: Assuming you’re going on an Alaskan cruise for vacation, think about what elements of a cruise that you find the most relaxing. Do you enjoy the energy of a lot of people or do you prefer to have a little more quiet time for yourself? What activities are you looking forward to? Most cruises provide tours and activities at each city stop. If you’re looking for more information, consider checking out this blog post “Which Alaskan Cruise is Right for You?“
- Q: Can I really get mulled by a bear?
- A: Yes – absolutely. Brown bears are generally speaking, more likely to attack a human (vs. black bears). Learn more about bears in our ABC bear blog post here.
- Q: How much does it rain during the summer in southeast Alaska?
- A: The short answer – a lot! Make sure you take GOOD rain gear (you won’t see a lot of umbrellas). As a reference point, Juneau gets over 60 inches of rain per year.
